 The question of how and when continents have grown and were recycled remains a fundamental topic in Earth sciences. A key time interval is the Archaean to Palaeoproterozoic, when plate tectonics most likely began. In the period ca. 2.4-2.2 Ga there is an apparent shortage of evolved igneous rocks, which has led to the postulation of a “global magmatic shutdown”. In this scenario, a paucity of juvenile addition into the crust is plausibly caused by a widespread lithospheric stagnation, characteristic of episodic mantle overturn. However, I am working on rare occurrences of such rocks in the Mineiro Belt, Brazil which represents a unique opportunity. This project uses a broad assemblage of accessory minerals, including zircon, titanite and apatite. U-Pb, Lu-Hf, and O isotopic analysis of zircons from Paleoproterozoic granitoids, in addition to detrital zircons, will provide new constraints on geodynamic evolution. Trace elements in both titanite and apatite (as the host mineral or inclusions) will provide direct access to the crystallisation history of plutonic rocks through mineral-inclusion equilibrium phases
